Timber & Tide: We’re Now Filming In the Pacific Northwest
As a Maui wedding videographer, I’ve been able to live and work in one of the world’s most beautiful destinations. Here, I shared the artistry of filmmaking while working with amazing couples from all over.
But my life changed when wildfires destroyed parts of Lahaina, including my own home. Grateful to make it out alive yet grieving all we lost, my family and I decided to relocate to my home state of Oregon.
We didn’t make that decision lightly. Though my number-one priority was the well-being of my family, I also cared deeply for No Ka Oi Films and all the couples who entrusted us with their wedding day video.
So I knew I needed to figure out a way to provide joyful, expert-level wedding films for all our Maui bookings while also forging a path toward doing the work I love in Oregon.
And so I created Timber & Tide Oregon Wedding Videography. Now I’m able to provide joyful, timeless wedding videography for happy couples throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Oregon Roots
Though my wedding videography business grew and flourished on Maui, my story actually begins in Oregon. That’s where I was born and raised, where I first held a camera, and where I fell in love with nature’s wild beauty.
But at age 19, I made my way to Maui, where I built my entire life. It’s where I met my wife, started a family, made incredible friends, and became a wedding videographer.
If you really want to appreciate your surroundings, create movies. Through my work, I got to see Maui the way hundreds of visitors saw it, the way it looked to couples who traveled here for the biggest day of their lives. And outside of work, my hobby films allowed me to see the island through the eyes of my children and Maui’s wonderful people.
Now, Timber & Tide will allow me to share everything I’ve learned and loved about wedding films with couples in the Pacific Northwest. Though the setting is different, my expertise and devotion to natural wonder remain true.
The Future of No Ka Oi
I’m happy to share that No Ka Oi is still in business. Creating Timber & Tide has given me the flexibility to travel when needed for my work. Plus, I have long-time associate videographers on the ground, ensuring that each couple’s wedding day is recorded with creativity and professionalism.
And, as a little flex for my videographer skills, I didn’t lose any footage in the wildfire, so past clients are still fully cared for.
Though my family is settling into a new life in Oregon, No Ka Oi couples can rely on me and my team to provide reliable, attentive, and quality service, including these pillars we’ve stood on for more than nine years:
A polished workflow that allows us to truly care for couples and understand their vision for their wedding film.
Expert videography from the team at No Ka Oil films
Joyful and tailored editing that I personally oversee
Reliable turnaround times, secure backup systems, and a personal, friendly approach to filmmaking
I will likely take on fewer Maui bookings as Timber & Tide grows, because I want to make sure I can maintain that level of service for anyone who is reserved with us. But whether you are marrying on the sunny shores of Hawaii or the varied landscape of the Pacific Northwest, we encourage you to reach out and see how we can preserve your wedding memories in a timeless and cheerful way.
A New Name, a Trusted Process
While Timber & Tide Films is a new business, the spirit, expertise, and style behind it are time-tested and true. We pride ourselves on providing joyful, modern wedding films using the latest technologies and best practices so that couples can enjoy their memories for a lifetime.
As I film with No Ka Oi Films and Timber & Tide Films, I don’t focus on posing and stressing over each shot. Instead, we embrace the natural energy of each day – and each individual couple – by capturing the moments in which they’re most authentically them. They’re enjoying their day, celebrating together, trying to soak in all the little moments.
My time on Maui taught me a lot about wedding videography. Filming in Hawaii is tough. These are bright, outdoor weddings with ever-changing light that reflects off the ocean. Weddings are often on public beaches with strangers in the background, and the wind is a beast all its own.
But it is also beautiful. Most couples want to marry in Hawaii because they’re drawn to the relaxed vibes and sunny spirit. They don’t want a forced, constructed wedding video. They also don’t want to waste precious wedding time trying to be actors or models. They just want a stunning video that captures the joy of their day.
I’m bringing this polished yet pressure-free approach to Timber & Tide. Sure, films in the Pacific Northwest will look a little different, but we’ll still be working with the same amazing couples who want a natural and effervescent wedding film.
Embracing the Changes
I want to thank all the friends, families, wedding pros, and No Ka Oi clients who checked in and offered support as my family endured the trials and changes brought on by the Maui wildfires.
I’ve learned a lot these recent months, and I hope to put all my skills and new life lessons toward my work as I extend my services beyond Hawaii.
